Definition and Objectives of ISO

Many people say that ISO stands for International Organization for Standardization, when the ISO is not an abbreviation. ISO comes from the Greek isos meaning equal. The use of the word in reference to the ISO in order to facilitate for the International Organization for Standardization, based on consideration of a wide variety of cultural and language from countries around the world.
Understanding of the ISO itself is "an international organization specialized in terms of standardization" (MN Nasution, 2001:218). So the ISO is an international organization specializing in the field of standardization.

Like other organizations, the ISO also has a purpose. The purpose of ISO is to "develop and promote common standards for internationally accepted" (MN Nasution, 2001: 218).
