ISO has several series that are tailored to the area managed by an organization, from a series of ISO there is a series related to the quality. ISO series related to the quality is ISO 9000 series. This is in line with that put forward by M. N. Nasution (2001:219) that ISO 9000 is a series of international standards for quality systems, which specifies the requirements and recommendations for design and for assessment of a management system in order to ensure that the suppliers (companies) will deliver the goods and / or services that meet the requirements has been set.
Understanding is aligned with that proposed by Perry L. Johnson (1997:6) that "ISO 9000 is a series of quality assurance standards were the resource persons That created by the International Organization for Standardization, based in Geneva, Switzerland". This means that the ISO 9000 quality system is a set of standards created by the Internatinal Organization for Standardization based in Geneva, Switzerland.
Based on the definition above can be concluded that ISO 9000 is a standard that plays an important role in the field of quality systems, especially those that discuss pengenda1ian steps of production or services within the scope of products or services.
Like the ISO, the ISO 9000 series also has several purposes. M. N. Nasution (2001:219) says that the primary purpose of ISO 9000 is as follows:
1) The organization can achieve and maintain the quality of products or services produced, so that on an ongoing basis to meet the needs of buyers.
2) The organization can provide assurance to the management itself that the intended quality is achieved and maintained.
3) The organization can provide assurance to buyers that the quality which meant it has been or will be achieved in a product or service being sold.
